DIVERSITYinEd.com — 30 — Spring Issue 2020 Why Career Services Is the Most Important Office on Campus by Marian Minnard ADVICE – CAREER SERVICES M ost universities have a career services center with the primary purpose of helping students with career and profes- sional development. It's an important resource on campus when it comes to helping you envision and plan for your future. According to recent surveys, college graduates who use the resources are more likely to obtain full-time jobs than those who don't. Only half of graduates surveyed visited career ser- vices at least once. In some cases, students who utilized these resources were more likely to have jobs waiting for them after graduation. The purpose of college is to educate and help students find a career path suitable for them that will lead to a successful future. The goal of career services is to help students choose a career path, find relevant internships and match students with employers to help them begin a successful journey. One of the misconceptions is that the career ser - vices center is useful only in your senior year when Photo credit: XULA Student Group
