DIVERSITYinEd.com — 42 — Spring Issue 2020 INDUSTRY OUTLOOK by Tim Neubert, AAEE, Executive Director Opportunities Abound for Teacher Candidates Across U.S. O pportunities continue to abound for K-12 teachers in most subject areas, especially teachers open to relocation. According to a survey of colleges, universities and school districts conducted by the American Association for Em- ployment in Education in 2018- 2019, the nationwide demand for teachers exceeds demand in all but two subject areas: Physical Education and Social Studies Education. Subject areas experi- encing a "considerable shortage" overall (and therefore most in demand) include: • Bilingual/Multicul- tural Education • Chemistry • Chinese Language • Classical Languages • Cognitive Disabilities Special Education • Dual Cert (General and Special Education) • Early Childhood Special Education • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders Special Education • German Language • Hearing Impaired Special Education • Japanese Language • Learning Disability
